I have been an editor since 1999. I began editing in-house for a technical book publisher in 1999 and worked there for two years, until it was sold and my division was closed.
I then went to work editing documentation for an environmental consulting firm by day while freelancing for technical book publishers at night. By 2003, I had transitioned to full-time freelance work, editing for book publishers and various other clients.
Since then, I’ve edited hundreds of books and dozens of technical and government reports. I work primarily in nonfiction, though I have edited fiction as well. Since 2013, I have been an editing instructor for UC Berkeley Extension’s Professional Sequence in Editing. I have taught grammar, copyediting, and substantive editing, and I helped redesign three of the courses in the sequence to update them for current editing trends and job markets.
